Advanced Placement exam readers wanted

The latest newsletter from the College Board included this invitation. If you have taught an AP Comparative Government and Politics course for 3 years or if you have recently taught a college or university introductory comparative government and/or politics course, you're probably eligible to apply.

I can only second the assertion in the invitation that reading exams is a good thing for teachers to do. It was, without a doubt, the most valuable and important professional activity I ever was part of outside of the classroom. (I read exams most years between 1992 and 2003.) If you can get away for a week of intense work days in a collegial atmosphere, do it. The money is nice, but for me there were more important benefits.

Seeking AP Readers
The AP Program is now accepting applications for AP Comparative Government and Politics teachers to serve as Readers at the annual AP Reading, which will be held June 10-16 2010... The AP Reading is an energizing opportunity — an intensive collegial exchange with more than 10,000 highly skilled AP teachers and college faculty. AP Readers consistently tell us that the time spent reading, discussing, and evaluating student work alongside accomplished educators at the Reading represents the best professional development experience of their teaching careers.

Readers are provided an honorarium of $1,604, and their travel expenses, lodging, and meals are reimbursed. Readers who teach at the high-school level also receive certificates awarding professional development hours and Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for their participation in the AP Reading.
